Growing up in a musical household, Max began piano and cello lessons at the age of 6. In studying western and American classical music, his songwriting utilizes aspects of folk and jazz harmony. At the age of 11, Max was gifted Stevie Wonder's album Fulfillingness’ First Finale and took to writing Motown inspired love songs. His songwriting influence expanded in discovering artists like Allen Stone, Cataldo, Lianne La Havas and Roadman.
Max performs regularly with Crucial Reggae Social Club, sharing the stage with members of John Brown’s Body, Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad, Big Mean Sound Machine, Dreamt, Mutron Warriors, Jimkata and Mosaic Foundation. In 2017, Max played with Doe Paoro supporting the fall segment of Son Little’s Blue Magic tour.
